Minutemen Player A. Sparo to attend Northwood Prep
The Valley Forge Minutemen are proud to announce that Anthony Sparo will be attending Northwood Prep next year. Ant joined the Minutemen family as a first year Bantam and has enjoyed a ton of team and personal success. His Bantam Major season the team finished first in the regular season, won the AYHL Playoffs and then went on to win the District Championship earning a birth at Nationals, at U15 the team earned the bye to the District Final (cancelled because of Covid) and this past season the team advanced to Districts as well. Individually he has always been one of the top point producers all 4 years that he has been with the Minutemen. Since Day 1 with the Minutemen, Ant and his family have been totally committed and loyal. Going to Northwood is a great opportunity for Ant and his family to combine a great academic and hockey environment.
Coach Tyson speaks highly about Sparo and his family, “Anthony Sparo is a special young man. Hard Working, Loyal, Respectful, Honorable, and ultimately a great leader as one of our captains of the 16U team this past season. I have had the pleasure of coaching Ant for 4 seasons going back to bantam minor at VFMM and each season he has progressed and made steps in the right direction as a player and teammate on and off the ice. Ant is one of the few players I have coached that can play in any role and makes an impact in all 3 zones. He can put the puck in the net, his strength and speed allows him to play physical and finish his checks, and he can block shots in the d zone and I know he will be able to compete and do this at Northwood. His work ethic off the ice is unmatched and he knows he now needs to even elevate that this summer before arriving at Northwood. Coach Cassidy will love having a player like Ant who just goes to work and will do whatever he needs to do to help the team be successful and make players around him better. I wish Anthony nothing but the best and can say this opportunity is well deserved for all the hard work he has put in to getting to this point in his young career. I hold my friendship with the Sparo family in the highest regard and look forward to watching him succeed at the next level.”
Anthony had this to add about his experience with the Minutemen as well as his opportunity to attend Northwood.
“I’m very thankful for my coaches and teammates who have helped me get to this point in my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I really do consider myself lucky to have played under head coaches like Jim Sutow and Ryan Tyson because they both instilled in me from day one that it just comes down to your commitment and work ethic when wanting to achieve your goals. I can also say with the utmost sincerity that the Valley Forge Minutemen organization is not only a great place to develop as hockey player but also as a better place to develop as a person because I know it did for me. Words can’t express how happy and excited I am for the opportunity to play Northwood.”
Anthony Sparo will join former VFMM 04 Andrew Centrella and 03 Nolan Woudenberg at Northwood for the 21-22 season.
Anthony also joins notable former VFMM players who have moved on in the past few seasons In Vinny Borgesi (Selects/Lincoln Stars USHL/Northeastern), Andrew Centrella (NW/Omaha Lancers), Dylan Shane (MSC), and Jake Kloss (Canterbury School).
Good Luck Ant!
