BEFORE YOU REGISTER

Here are a few quick answers to common questions.

That’s absolutely fine! If your child is brand new to skating, we recommend beginning with Oaks Center Ice’s Learn to Skate or Learn to Play program. It’s the best way to build a strong foundation before jumping into Mites.

Full hockey gear is required at the Mite level (helmet with cage, pads, gloves, skates, stick, etc.). If you go through Flyers Learn to Play at Oaks, your child will receive starter equipment with registration. Equipment can also be purchased at the Oaks Pro Shop, Pro Hockey, or Play It Again Sports.

Yes. VFC offers multi-player discounts to make hockey more affordable for families with more than one child playing.

If your child has basic skating skills, they can start with our CHIP (Colonials Hockey Instructional Program) or the Flyers Learn to Play Rookie Program. The Flyers Learn to Play program is a great entry point for first-time players — plus, registration comes with starter equipment to get your child fully geared up. Once they finish CHIP or Learn to Play, Mites is a great next step.

Games are scheduled against local clubs, usually within about an hour of Oaks Center Ice.

Yes! At the Mite level, all players have the opportunity to rotate through goalie using shared team equipment. It’s a great way to try the position without committing long-term.
